HOW TO AVOID NEEDING REPAIRS
NEVER drag or push furniture across a carpet!!!! The legs, even if they have castors, are not made for that lateral pressure, they support weight pushing straight down. The legs could catch a loose thread and pull it out ruining the carpet, or they could catch a loose thread and break off.
Do not lift desks, dressers or tables by the top. Get a firm grip further down because the fasteners on the top are intended to hold it in place, not to support the entire weight of the piece hanging from it.
When lifting a piece to move it more than a couple of feet use two people, one at the top and the other at the bottom. Tip the piece to about a 45 degree angle, then lift. This makes it easier to control and gives both of you room for your knees.
Before you lift....... make sure you are not wearing a large belt buckle and that you don't have sharp objects in your pockets, this will avoid nasty scratches.
By the way _-__MOM WAS RIGHT!!!...... always use a coaster or something under hot or cold items on your fine wood furniture. This will prevent rings and white blushes. If you see one of these, DO NOT try to rub it out. The damage is under the finish, rubbing with even a soft cloth will only damage the top of the finish too.
Drawers...in DESKS, DRESSERS, TABLES AND CABINETS....have very LIMITED CAPACITY...... Do not overload them. When you stuff things into a drawer so that you have to press down on them to get the drawer to slide closed, you are putting all that downward pressure on the bottom. This will cause the bottom to BULGE, causing the drawer to stick, or it will CRACK - BREAK OR POP OUT rendering it useless! If a drawer seems full, pull it out turn it upside down, then look at the items that were at the bottom. Are they in current use? If not, store them elsewhere, donate them, or chuck them. Now with the drawer much less full, put it back in place.
If you have to tighten screws or bolts on loose legs, do not over tighten them. They could strip or the inserts could pull completely out.
